Richard Childress Likes New Inspection Penalties, Gave Stern Warning to Teams

Team Chevrolet had a media availability to talk about the direction of the manufacturer in NASCAR. During it, Richard Childress had a little talk about the new inspection procedure that will result in NASCAR stripping wins away if a winner’s car is illegal.

“I think it’s good. I think what they’re doing, if they’ll stick to it, it’s going to be better for all of us,” Childress said. “Racers are competitive. They’re going to do everything they can to get the advantage.  If you know going in you’re going to get your hand slapped if you win the race, you’re going to be a little more careful how you do it.”

Childress’ No. 3 team and his affiliated No. 13 team have already had car chiefs ejected for the Daytona 500 as both cars failed initial inspection at the 2.5-mile speedway. Childress proceeded to rip into his team to let them know that would not be tolerated.

“We got hit on the first round. We lost a car chief and the 13 lost one. We had a meeting after that. I got everybody’s attention, I hope.”
