Johnny Sauter Listed as Driver of No. 13 ThorSport Truck

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series North Carolina Education Lottery 200

By Toby Christie

It feels like in the cruel world of motorsports, justice has finally been served as Johnny Sauter has landed a ride for the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series season.

Sauter, 40, was sent packing from GMS Racing after a 2018 season that saw the driver rack up an impressive six-win campaign, which led to a sixth-straight top-4 finish in the championship standings. Although Sauter and his No. 21 team fell flat in the championship race, he still had a career-year.

However, 13 wins and a championship in three seasons with GMS Racing wasn’t enough for the Wisconsin native to hold on to his job. For weeks the NASCAR world has felt sorrow for the veteran who was tossed to the curb.

Monday evening, those who felt for Sauter were given a reason to be joyous. The entry list was released for the upcoming NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona, and Sauter’s name appeared next to the No. 13 ThorSport Racing truck.

This means that Sauter will return to the team that he raced for before splitting to run for GMS. Now, can Sauter prove to his former team that they were wrong for giving him the pink slip?

Sauter versus Brett Moffitt (who took his GMS Racing ride) will be a fun story line to watch all year long.
