Ryan Preece Will Continue Racing Modifieds as Much as Possible

Ryan Preece has made it. After toiling away as a NASCAR Modified driver hoping to land himself a big-time NASCAR ride, he is a full-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver. However, Preece doesn’t plan on giving up what got him to the dance.

At the NASCAR Hall of Fame, after a sponsorship announcement, Preece was asked by Zack Albert of NASCAR.com whether he would continue driving in the Modified ranks this season now that he is a Cup Series regular for JTG Daugherty Racing in the No. 47 car.

Preece’s response was emphatic.

“I was just unloading my Modified this morning at a shop, so absolutely. I’m going to be at New Smyrna, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday for the Modifieds kicking off. I plan on the weekend we off April 20th at Bowman Gray, the 200-lapper, I plan on racing there. There’s two Tour shows I’ve circled on my calendar — a midweek show at Thompson that we’re going to try to do some promoting for, and obviously New Hampshire Motor Speedway, I’m there already so that’s a pretty big place for me.”

However, the races that Preece listed won’t be the only Modified events he runs in 2019, he went on the say that he will finish out 2019 as a fill-in driver in the Modified ranks driving if stuff works out.

How about beyond 2019?

Preece ended by saying, “…but I’m from the grassroots of racing. I don’t plan on leaving it.”

Expect to see Preece behind the wheel of a Modified race car for a long, long time.
