Update January 23 9:30 am ET: AdventHealth and Chip Ganassi Racing have officially sent out a press release announcing McMurray in the Clash for CGR.

Roughly one month ago, a rumor surfaced on the Reddit NASCAR page that Jamie McMurray would, at some point in 2019, be running a No. 40 AdventHealth Chevrolet Camaro for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona.

Now, the rumor has officially been confirmed by the Daytona Beach News Journal and has since been solidified in a press release from Chip Ganassi Racing.

In the article from Godwin Kelly, McMurray says, “We’ve had a relationship with Florida Health, now AdventHealth, for the past three years. We’ve done a lot with them and they sponsor a fan injector at the Speedway.”

McMurray, 42, will get to close out his Cup Series career in the car number that he started it all off with, No. 40. He will run the Clash at Daytona followed by the Daytona 500 and then he will step into an analyst role at Fox Sports.

In 2002, championship contender Sterling Marlin was sidelined with a broken neck. Chip Ganassi Racing called upon an unproven rookie to fill in. McMurray, in just his second-career Cup Series start — which came at Charlotte Motor Speedway — won the race.

In all, McMurray has seven-career Cup Series wins through a 17-year career.

This off-season it was announced that Chip Ganassi Racing had signed Kurt Busch to replace McMurray in their No. 1 ride for the 2019 season.
