Rain Gives Kurt Busch Pole For All-Star Race

Friday at Charlotte Motor Speedway the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series fought mother nature for a chance to get qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race in, but unfortunately mother nature won.

The rains came and washed out qualifying with four of the 18 drivers yet to qualify. The biggest loser in this ordeal was Juan Montoya. Montoya was on the pole when the rains came, but as a result of the rule book he will have to race his way to the front from the 14th starting spot.

NASCAR decided to line the field up by the qualifying order, which is selected every week by a member of each team in a lottery.

This ruling placed Kurt Busch on the pole for the All-Star Race, and along with that ever important track position Busch received $25,000 and the Pole Award.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who hadn’t yet taken a qualifying run, will start 18th (last of drivers currently eligible drivers), however he looked pretty sporty in the practice session earlier in the day… It’ll be interesting to see what the 88-team can do in this event, especially after a dismal performance at Dover last week.

Here is the Sprint All-Star Race Lineup:

[ 1 ] Kurt Busch

[ 2 ] Joey Logano

[ 3 ] Brad Keselowski

[ 4 ] Jamie McMurray

[ 5 ] Kyle Busch

[ 6 ] David Reutimann

[ 7 ] Jimmie Johnson

[ 8 ] Jeff Gordon

[ 9 ] Casey Mears

[10] Ryan Newman

[11] Tony Stewart

[12] Denny Hamlin

[13] Kevin Harvick

[14] Matt Kenseth

[15] Mark Martin

[16] Kasey Kahne

[17] Bobby Labonte

[18] Dale Earnhardt Jr.

[19] Showdown Winner

[20] Showdown Second-Place

[21] Sprint Fan Vote

The Showdown race is the last chance for drivers who aren’t already eligible for the All-Star Race to advance. Well those drivers were looking to lay down times to see who would start first in that event, but rain also washed this out. As a result David Ragan will start from the top spot followed by Max Papis, Sam Hornish Jr., Kevin Conway, and Greg Biffle will round out the top-five starters.
