The Definition of Loyalty: NASCAR Fans

They’ve been called rednecks, hillbillies, beer chuggin’ cussin’ no goods, and even racists to the ignorant few who haven’t met them. You can call them whatever you want, but what they truly are is loyal. I’m of course talking about NASCAR fans. The most loyal of all fans in the entire world of sports.

I know there are fans of the Detroit Lions in the NFL who would disagree and say they stuck with their team even after an NFL record 0-16 season. That’s nice and all, but nowhere near the dedication of a NASCAR fan. Every week at NASCAR races there are fans that wear Dave Blaney t-shirts, and not because they were freebies, its because they genuinely think he is the best.

For those who aren’t into NASCAR, Dave Blaney has not won a race in 333 career starts. Just think about that for a second.

Football fans get upset when their team doesn’t make the playoffs… do you think they could withstand a 333 game losing streak? No way, but NASCAR fans stick with their favorites through thick and very very thin.

In fact any driver that is not in the top 35 in NASCAR owner points are not guaranteed a spot in each race, so if they aren’t fast enough in qualifying then they go home, yet their fans still stick with them. If an NFL team was only allowed to compete in 10 games per year do you think they would still have support from fans? Not a chance.

In the NFL, NBA, and MLB if a team goes on a winning streak and takes home multiple championships they are all of a sudden a fan favorite. What does this mean? fans in other sports want to be fans of winning teams. They don’t mind changing team hats when someone starts winning. Jimmie Johnson has just taken his fourth straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, and don’t get me wrong he has a strong fan base, but he is nowhere near the most popular driver in the sport.

Heck the most popular driver in the sport is Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is currently riding a 57 race winless streak. Which is another bit of proof that NASCAR fans are the most loyal in the world.

So before you start bashing NASCAR fans, take a good long look in the mirror. The person you may really have a problem with is yourself. NASCAR fans are without a doubt the most loyal fans in all of sports… so stop hatin’.
